About the Author
Dr. Shuttleworth worked for 20 years at the UK’s Institute of Hydrology, ultimately as Head of the Hydrological Processes Division. In 1993 he joined the University of Arizona where he is Regents' Professor in both the Department of Hydrology�and Water Resources and the Atmospheric Sciences Department. He has served on numerous national and international scientific advisory committees, including the National Research Council, the International Council of Scientific Unions, the International Hydrology Programme, the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme, and the World Climate Research Programme.� In 2001 Dr. Shuttleworth was awarded the AGU Hydrology Prize for "outstanding contributions to the science of hydrology",�and in 2006 IAHS, UNESCO and WMO jointly awarded him the prestigious International Hydrology Prize.

An excellent book!

The science of hydrology has advanced in the past 40 years. Models for
hydrological response of a catchment is no longer based on simple
parameters and dimensionless numbers but solving the water and energy
balance equations simultaneously. Observations of hydrological
processes and variables in catchments make use of very sophisticated
instrumentation. Furthermore it has been recognized that the land
surface and atmosphere are not discrete entities but intimately
coupled.
These are the advances that Jim Shuttleworth's book, Terrestrial
Hydrometeorology intimately connects with and relates hydrology as an
integrative rather than a stand alone science. It is very well written
and is a complete presentation of the "new" hydrology. This is a must
read book for every graduate student in water resources and hydrology,
a great reference for the practicing engineer and a book every
undergraduate who wishes to enter graduate school in the area of water
resources. This is a great book and helps advance the science of

fills an unmet need

I teach a course in terrestrial hydroclimatology and have struggled over the last several years to find a textbook that adequately covers the basic elements of this important and timely topic. Consequently, I have had to patch together chapters from a large variety of books. Dr. Shuttleworth's "Terrestrial Hydrometeorology" fills this gap very nicely. It is an excellent review of the topic and is at a level that is accessible to both graduate and upper division undergraduate students from a large breadth of disciplines. I look forward to adopting this textbook in my course.

the book is well-written and should be 'must-have' by those who are working hard to keep the planet sustainable using scientific principles or engineering approaches. it is also a wonderful book for the future earth scientists. this book is worth every dollar - probably, it ranks higher than the handbook of hydrology.
