Excellant book if you are trying to understand why Chrisitians of the 19th supported slavery

This is the best book writen from a theological few on the support of slavery from the southern viewpoint. I found that I disagreed with some of his conclusions, but to get a better picture of the Chrisitian mindset in the south at that time there is no book better.

Written after the Civil War to justify slavery. First an attempt at Biblical justification. Rejects idea that the secular order, including slavery, was neither approved nor opposed by Bible. Notes that slave trade to America was entirely conducted from New England area. One absurd distinction in book: slavery did not involve ownership of the individual but only of what they produced.
