Excellent research on one of the most obscure designs of the civil war. The information on the rifles usage at New Orleans, the converted Austrian rifles and that 6,000 carbines were made was all new to me. The use of Linder carbines in South America was also nice but obviously needs more work to clarify there use in the War of the Triple Alliance.

About the Author
Mike Peng is the Jindal Chair of Global Business Strategy at the Jindal School of Business, University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). At UTD, he founded the Center for Global Business, where he serves as the executive director. Professor Peng was also recently named a fellow with the Academy of International Business. He holds a bachelor's degree from Winona State University, Minnesota, and a Ph.D. from the University of Washington, Seattle. Prior to joining UTD, Professor Peng was on the faculty at the Ohio State University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and University of Hawaii, where he taught students at all levels and often served as a faculty trainer and consultant. In addition, he has held visiting or courtesy professorial appointments in Australia, Britain, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and the United States. This award-winning professor is widely regarded as one of the most prolific and influential scholars in global business, and has garnered many research grants for his work. The United Nations and the World Bank have cited his work in major publications. Truly global in scope, his research focuses on firms' strategies in regions such as Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, and North America. He has published about 50 articles in leading academic journals and authored three books. Klaus Meyer is a Professor of Strategy and International Business at the School of Management, University of Bath, where he teaches Strategic Management and International Business. Klaus is also an adjunct professor at Copenhagen Business School. Previously, Klaus was a Professor in the Department of Management at the University of Reading, with association to the Center for International Business Research (CIBS). Before that, he spent eight years with the Center for East European Studies, Copenhagen Business School, Denmark, where he eventually became a Professor of International Business Strategy. Klaus also held visiting positions at the Department of Management and Organization at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (2001/02) and the Department of International Trade at National Cheng-chi University in Taiwan (spring 2005). Klaus' current research focuses on strategies of multinational enterprises in emerging economies and he is particularly interested in how firms adapt their business strategies to the specific conditions prevailing in each emerging economy. His research also extends to the impact of foreign investors on the economic transition and development of the host economies, for instance in the context of privatization related acquisitions. Another stream of research focuses on the global strategies that may bring multinational enterprises into emerging economies in the first place. Klaus also serves as a senior editor of the Asia Pacific Journal of Management.

An excellent textbook for international business (IB)

It is an excellent textbook for international business (IB). As a college instructor, I have used it in my class three semesters since 2008. Why do I like my students to benefit from this book?

1/ Knowledge: Students can understand the fundamental issues and concepts in IB, and apply knowledge to real world situations through the vivid cases. I appreciate that half of cases come from emerging markets, like BRICs. These help my students to know the importance of emerging markets, which are driving world economy out from financial crisis today.

2/ Analytical framework: While marketing textbooks focus on 4Ps, operations textbooks promote 7As, this book, which covers a vaster territory (the entire globe), only asks students to develop two frameworks: the institutional-based view and resource-based view. So this book not only helps student to absorb information, but also helps them to better organize and structure this messy information - how to use the framework to understand this rapidly changing world. After 10 years, the textbook will become obsolete, but students can still build their career informed by these two views.

3/ Critical thinking: This textbook helps students develop the skills to understand the multicultural aspects and international dimensions of the societies and the world in which they live. A series of debates can open students' eyes and build their global mental set. What is most refreshing is that the author does not give a single answer or simple evaluation for many questions, but provides many possible approaches to widen the reader's mindset. My students love the debates!

4/ Humanism: Globalization raises lots of dilemmas. To deal with this complexity, students need to develop a better appreciation for human values and the ability to make judgments based on ethical and environmental considerations. This book also discusses lots of ethic challenge in business, and gives corporate social responsibility (CSR) a special chapter. No other IB textbook has done that to CSR.

In the end, I also like this book because it raises a fundamental question in IB: what determinates the success and failure of firms around the world? It is totally different from other textbooks in IB, which typically don't even have one big question. I believe that this core question will continue to stimulate our students--we cannot learn until the right question has been asked.

Seriously, how did you get this published?

I was forced to buy this as a text book for grad school.

Fortunately Amazon had it used for $3.99, rather than the $260 new. Even at $3.99 I feel as if I were robbed.

This book tries to have a friendly to read, and semi-snarky attitude toward international trade.

It really just waters down the topic to a juvenile degree, and plain sucks.

One of the best I've read

Ever had a book that gave you a huge "Aha!" moment? This was one of those for me. I work in a small nonprofit and we have struggled for years with the inconsistencies between our services and our mission. In addition, as we began to measure our outcomes, we realized how unfocused we are. David Hunter's book was just the prescription we needed. It explains clearly the relationship between mission, audience, programs/services, outcomes, outputs, etc. It provides practical instruction and examples to help you identify where dis-alignment exists and work to straighten it up. Then it goes a step further by explaining how to keep that alignment in place and keep inching closer to higher impact by integrating data reviews and program improvements into the organization. Don't get me wrong, this won't be easy and will be a commitment and culture change for us, but I am so thankful we now have a roadmap to fix ourselves instead of stumbling along on our own.

About the Author
Rob Westbrook became a follower of Jesus Christ at the later age of thirty. Called into the preaching ministry at thirty-two, Rob attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, earning a Bachelors of Arts degree in Pastoral Ministry. He later earned forty-six hours toward a Masters of Divinity degree. Rob became pastor of his first church, Hebron Baptist Church, in Amite County, Mississippi, in 1998, while attending seminary. By 2002 the time commitments to both seminary and the church became strained, and Rob chose to leave seminary behind for the church. Around 2005, God began preparing him for planting a new church. He left his first church pastorate in 2006 to become a church planter in his hometown of Amory, Mississippi. LifePointe Church had its first service in January 2008. Rob currently serves there, at LifePointe Church. Rob has been married to Teresa for almost 24 years. He and Teresa have one daughter, Lauren, who married Brandon in 2013. They also have three dogs, Malachi, Gabby, and Crimson.

An informative book...

I found this book to be informative and tightly thought out. I do have a philosophical issue with it in terms of the author's position that the Black Sun is our very Being. I would not go so far as to say that. It ultimately is a leap into faith to accept that this Black Sun actually exists or that there are daemons that hover just above your head but I guess it can be comforting for some people. There is plenty of good info on how to inspire your rituals toward a LHP bent. Also, the lesser Sabbat reminded me of the Jewish observance of Shabbas where the Sabbath Peace of the World to Come is experienced during this observance. Malphas suggests a type of Sabbat where the world of the Pandemonium is experienced as a foretaste of the LHP World to Come. That's a little too religious for me but overall I liked the info and found what I was looking for. Maybe you will too!

Many not be too great for those who question things

Warning: This is a biased opinion.

On the surface the author is breaking new ground with his book but the more I read his book, the more his work is questionable.

The premise of the book is about knowing that there is a black sun emanating black (uv?) rays in some parallel universe that spawns daemons. Each daemon is attributed to every human being, well according to him, there's 3 daemons attributed to the 3 parts of the self. Once this is known, then the mission of merging with ones daemon to understand his or her true will while bringing the kingdom of pandaemonium (as it were) on earth is the objective to be carried out.

There's other parts of the book that speaks of ancestral worship by having the ancestors in your life to help you/daemon complete your true will and you fix your ancestral karma or wyrd to remove any wrong doing of your families blood line.

I find that it's sort of based on Eastern Mysticism but for me, this book has many concepts that I have a hard time getting around. So then what I did was ask the author myself certain questions about his/her work in which took a while for a reply. Eventually my questions were answered with a suggestion to go to his/her ($5.00 a pop) forum if I have any future questions. I had gratefully thanked the author still feeling unsatisfied by his/her answers while wondering why should I pay money to ask "believers" about the book when I can ask the author myself (who's also on my myspace page)- I mean, isn't buying the book payment enough?

The problems that I find with the literary faction of the occult is that there are too many people out to amalgamate a grand system of many different elements when the fact is certain things based on their nature shouldn't be mixed in. -Sounds like I'm speaking about something else doesn't it?

I am not calling the author (who's anonymous) a fraud but rather his work (to me) is rather unsound. Perhaps, this would change in the future eventhough I doubt it. Nor am I bashing this book because it may be right up your alley, but the only way for you to find out is to buy a copy for yourself.

Malphas has created an interesting book. Among Classical Theurgists Daemons were that class of being, half way between humans and gods. Their mere being provided a gateway -- way for the human to transcend the laws of the here-and-now. In most traditional system some greater Being sends you a Daemon to help you out, because It thinks your goals are worthwhile or your Virtue great. They're handy entities that help the human stop being a thing that exists by type -- "What you is is what you is" and become a being that can shape his fortune both in this and other realities. Malphas reveals in simple terms that these beings are you -- an not totally awakened part of you. If you use a rational self-aware and self-enlightened philosophy -- rather than herd-supertisition other-centric false altruism -- you can be the God that grants the Daemon to you. With simple to follow practices from both traditional magic and modern philosophy, Malphas shows you how to meet the Daemon, and become the Daemon. This is a book that would have delighted Thomas Jefferson, Anton LaVey, Socrates, Heideigger and even Uncle Setnakt. Well done! The perfect Walpurgusnacht gift. A nice maunal for increasing Power, Pleasure and Knowledge.

This Kindle edition of b/w photographs looks great and makes available an out-of-print book that now sells for over a hundred dollars to collectors. Great book; extremely useful and easy to navigate, but the binding was awful. The book was nearly about to fall apart when I first got it. I am just glad they accepted my return when I was done with it.

If it wasn't for my professor this book would have been burned! The end chapter exercises are barely about the chapter they are in and the examples are at least 4 pages long and very hard to follow! Don't use the beam tables in the back either, just look them up online!
