with excellent compilations on the social organization of wild horses

Wild equines have been seriously overlooked by academic researchers. This book provides a fair start to overcome the gap, with excellent compilations on the social organization of wild horses, zebras and assess, their ecological niches, and genetics. The chapter on reintroduction of wild euquids is particularly fascinating. Unfortunately, the section on management of free-roaming horses in the U.S. relies heavily on information provided by the Bureau of Land Management and ignores data from wild horse and burro advocates and independent researchers. The book also misses an opportunity to explore the debate as to whether mustangs are a returned native species or, as the government claims, feral animals, a designation that dooms them to mistreatment and misunderstanding..
