About the Author

Dr. Roger Pierangelo is a Professor in the Department of Special Education and Literacy at Long Island University. He has been an administrator of special education programs, served for 18 years as a permanent member of Committees on Special Education, has over 30 years of experience in the public school system as a general education classroom teacher and school psychologist, and serves as a consultant to numerous private and public schools, as well as PTA and Special Education PTA groups. Dr. Pierangelo has also been an evaluator for the New York State Office of Vocational and Rehabilitative Services and a director of a private clinic. He is a New York State–licensed clinical psychologist, a certified school psychologist, and a board-certified diplomate fellow in student and adolescent psychology and forensic psychology. Dr. Pierangelo is the executive director of the National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET) and an executive director of the American Academy of Special Education Professionals (AASEP). He is also vice president of the National Association of Parents with Children in Special Education (NAPCSE). Dr. Pierangelo earned his BS from St. John’s University, MS from Queens College, professional diploma from Queens College, PhD from Yeshiva University, and diplomate fellow in student and adolescent psychology and forensic psychology from the International College of Professional Psychology. Dr. Pierangelo is a member of the American Psychological Association, New York State Psychological Association, Nassau County Psychological Association, New York State Union of Teachers, and Phi Delta Kappa. Dr. Pierangelo is the author of multiple books in the field of special education, including two coauthored with Dr. Giuliani from Pearson Education titled Transition Services in Special Education: A Practical Approach and Learning Disabilities: A Practical Approach to Foundations, Assessment, Diagnosis, and Teaching.

Dr. George Giuliani is a full-time Associate Professor at Hofstra University’s School of Education and Special Education programs. He is also an adjunct professor at Hofstra University’s School of Law where he teaches special education law. Dr. Giuliani earned his BA from the College of the Holy Cross, MS from St. John’s University, JD from City University of New York School of Law, and MA and PsyD from Rutgers University. He earned board certification as a diplomate fellow in advanced child and adolescent psychology, board certification as a diplomate fellow in forensic sciences from the International College of Professional Psychology, and board certification in special education from the American Academy of Special Education Professionals. Dr. Giuliani is a member of the American Psychological Association, Education Law Association, New York State Psychological Association, American Bar Association, Suffolk County Psychological Association, Psi Chi, American Association of University Professors, and the Council for Exceptional Children. Dr. Giuliani is the executive director of The National Association of Special Education Teachers, executive director of the American Academy of Special Education Professionals, and president of the National Association of Parents with Children in Special Education. He has been a consultant for school districts and early childhood agencies, and has provided numerous workshops for parents, teachers, and other professionals on a variety of special education and psychological topics. Dr. Giuliani is the author of multiple books in the field of special education, including two coauthored with Dr. Pierangelo from Pearson Education titled Transition Services in Special Education: A Practical Approach and Learning Disabilities: A Practical Approach to Foundations, Assessment, Diagnosis, and Teaching.

Just don't

In full disclosure, I have not approached the content of the book. This is based strictly on the fact that you are going to pay a highway robbery price for a small amount of content. The physical quality of the product itself is just awful. I was not aware that such poor, flimsy paper stock existed. It is clear they cut every possible corner in quality to squeeze every penny into their own personal profit. It is a shame that textbook companies are just looking to make a buck, and that the good people who go into teaching have to waste their money on content that could easily be made available for a fraction of the cost if the textbook company cared about supporting educators instead of just making a buck. Don't buy this product by choice, but if you are a teacher and need to buy it for a course, thank you for all your hard work in an honorable profession and my condolences on the money you will spend that could have gone to much better use elsewhere.

Cubadisco 2014 Award with the production “J�venes Treseros de Cuba” (Young Tres players of Cuba) The creative work of Renesito, who was born in Santiago de Cuba, fully exploits the physiognomic possibilities and techniques of the instrument with a brilliant concept of interpretative excellence. His compositions denote a broad conception of the sound of the Cuban Tres, in which he uses expressive resources of Classical music, Jazz and World Music. Its roots lead him to recreate and develop melodies, and rhythms of the Trova, the Chang��, Neng�n, the Conga, Rumba and Son Santiaguero, making a kind of journey through the different playing styles of the eastern country, mixed with the urban concept of Arsenio Rodr�guez and Child Rivera.

One of the enduring ironies of medieval history is the fact that a group of Italian lay penitents, begging in sackcloths, led by a man who called himself simple and ignorant, turned in a short time into a very popular and respectable order, featuring cardinals and university professors among its ranks. Within a century of its foundation, the Order of Friars Minor could claim hundreds of permanent houses, schools, and libraries across Europe; indeed, alongside the Dominicans, they attracted the best minds and produced many outstanding scholars who were at the forefront of Western philosophical and religious thought.

In The Poor and the Perfect, Neslihan Åženocak provides a grand narrative of this fascinating story in which the quintessential Franciscan virtue of simplicity gradually lost its place to learning, while studying came to be considered an integral part of evangelical perfection. Not surprisingly, turmoil accompanied this rise of learning in Francis's order. Åženocak shows how a constant emphasis on humility was unable to prevent the creation within the Order of a culture that increasingly saw education as a means to acquire prestige and domination. The damage to the diversity and equality among the early Franciscan community proved to be irreparable. But the consequences of this transformation went far beyond the Order: it contributed to a paradigm shift in the relationship between the clergy and the schools and eventually led to the association of learning with sanctity in the medieval world. As Åženocak demonstrates, this episode of Franciscan history is a microhistory of the rise of learning in the West.

Once I started reading this book..I could not put it down. It is incredibly well written with absolute clarity and an irrefutable logic. The author moves music instruction forward by leaps and bounds. This book is a must for any practicing music instructors or music education students!! It is not a how to manual but provides a framework for music instruction through technology. Great for students. It is also a valuable text book for collegiate music education majors!

clever arguments

I like a good argument. Not a knock down drag out fight, but a cleverly worded one. Mr. Copan shows how to ruin a relativists day by letting him follow where his arguments lead. For all of the various forms of relativism (I didn't know there were this many) do self destruct when you take them to their end. But the good part is not how you ruin his un-thought-though thinking, but lead him to reality, and Christ.
The book ends with three chapters on how Christians think about those who have never heard of Jesus. (Not just those who have never been reached by missionaries, but mental cases or very young childhood before learning to speak.) Unfortunately, there is no consensus on that issue, but there are answers that are more likely than others.

A must have in any apologetic collection. Copan lays out a great case for why many relativists and post-modernists thinkers are holding contradictory beliefs. Relativism is a self-defeating system of thought. Relativist love saying that truth doesn't exist, but that your truth is based on your own experience. In defining truth in personal terms, relativists wish to live out there own system of thought without the influence of external ideas and authorities. As a result, they betray any possibility of coming to accurate terms with reality. Copan simply refutes all relativists claims by demonstrating that an absolute conception of truth must exist because even if one doesn't believe that truth exist, it would still have to true that truth doesn't exist. Therefore, truth must exist and we find this truth embodied in the person of Jesus.

No Muddled Thinking Here!

Clearly states the muddled thinking of "relativists" who consider reality optional; it's all in our heads. The title comes from the relativist idea that something can be true for one person but not another. Gravity? Anything else in Nature? Murder? And the list continues. A good text for those who are truly open minded or those who want to defend their beliefs against that of the relativist.
