Tim Powell is a founding partner of Powell Forster Solicitors. He has nearly 30 years' experience of defending possession proceedings, including several years as a duty solicitor at Lambeth County Court defending mortgage borrowers, tenants and leaseholders facing eviction. Recommended Read - Has hope & heart for the future of sustainable fashion

Have you heard that we are perhaps not treating our planet all that gently? Would you be interested in the response of the clothing industry to this situation? If so, you would enjoy this book.

The book is a series of essays by people in the clothing industry and academia. The main concept is sustainability - can clothing be made, worn and disposed of in ways that will not harm the planet? It tackles the subjects of organic agricultural production, humane conditions for clothing producers, the role of fashion, and recycling.

There were 2 chapters I found particularly interesting. One, "Designing For the Circular Economy: Cradle to Cradle Design," written by 2 people in industry, discussed the concept of incorporating sustainability into all the physical things we make. It was encouraging in that they seemed to have had some success. The second was written by a Cornell University professor. Although I did not understand everything he was saying, he presented very interesting ideas, such as: are sustainability and technology fundamentally incompatible? The history of mankind is one of change and "improvement" of the world-do we have it in us to be sustainable? Is it even possible technically? Have we already gone beyond the point of no return in saving the planet? What are the reasons the sustainability movement has not already become more prevalent? What is the relationship of the human body to clothing?

There were 2 major omissions I felt while reading the book. First of all, I am dimly aware of the concept of incorporating the cost of sustainability into the cost of manufactured items such as clothing, and I was surprised there was no discussion of this. Is sustainability to occur solely through the attitude of social responsibility of consumers and producers? Secondly, the book helped me understand that clothing producers and consumers exist in a global community, whereas governments exist in local communities and therefore may be less able to dictate sustainability because, unless all countries agree on the same policies, a particular country which engaged in a particular sustainable practice might be at a short term disadvantage. I would have liked to hear more thought concerning this.

The book did give the reader as an individual consumer both a philosophical grounding in, and practical ways, to contribute to sustainability.

Reading all the technical aspects of the clothing industry gives the reader a sense of the daunting challenges faced by humanity in achieving sustainability in all the aspects of our physical lives. However, I was excited by this book. It has hope and heart.

It is clear from not only the breadth of discussions in the chapters but also the experts that joined in the conversations in the book that the authors are not only knowledgeable about the topic but also very passionate about raising the level of the discussion to not only have the reader think about it, but to make a difference in the world going forward for our children and grandchildren. A must read for anyone interested in the fashion industry who is adapting to not only all of the disruptive changes from technology advancements or the millennial consumer, but also now producing in a global marketplace with limited resources.

While this book is an excellent text book, as a lay person, I found it very informative. Great book! Uplifting and Faith Building!

Morris delivers a powerful account of the witness of Jesus within this fantastic book. Jesus, Himself, declared, " You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me" (John 5:39). Morris does a fantastic job of showing, just as Jesus did to the apostles on the road to Emmaus, of all of things "beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning [Jesus]." He is the grand subject and His glory is the ends. Morris doesn't stop there though. He uses the testimony of Christians, the lives changed by faith in Jesus and the indwelling of His Holy Spirit, to continue the tale. Awesome read!

Very happy with this book!

With the growing appreciation of curvy and plus size body shapes this book couldn't have come at a better time. I love the unique format because it doesn't just describe examples with random photos but gets more specific with over 50 photo shoots. The author includes posing, props, equipment, and shooting data for each session which is a wealth of information and inspiration. She also shares her tried and true poses that work for just about any woman.

There are ideas and tips for a range of body types as subjects in the book range from a size 14 and up. Even little things like the best verbiage to direct your subjects (like tactful ways to tell your clients to *suck their stomach in*) are covered. There are also a range of lighting situations and locations from studio to outdoors.

Because there are so many variations of beauty photography and portraiture, this book is actually useful to more than just boudoir photographers...for instance posing tips could be applied for wedding photographers during a bridal portrait session or portrait photographers who shoot curvier women.

Overall, a great source of inspiration and a must for any boudoir or feminine portrait photographer, whether newbie or seasoned pro.

This is a good book that shows the intricacies of posing larger women. The emphasis is on how to hide bulging parts. There are some great words of advice on a variety of little details on creating proper exposure and looks on people's faces. I would have given it five stars but I believe the premise of hiding bulges suggests that people with bulges are not pretty and special poses are necessary to hide troublesome places. I am more interested in exploring capturing the beauty of people regardless of their size and without hiding the bulges.

If you are shooting, or thinking of shooting, boudoir for plus size gals and like to have a handy reference of poses, Tammy has a great compendium of poses that rock for these gals. As a quick visual reference of pose choices for the bigger ladies, I like keeping her book close to hand. Her text is clear and crisp in demonstrating enough of the the why of the poses. Many of the poses repeat... As they should. There are some key repeating angles that work with the curvier women. So you get to see pose variations with different women in slightly different settings. to well illustrate the variations. A must have to save yourself countless hours of figuring it out yourself, while potentially damaging the self image of big gals whom you haven't caught from their best angles.

This autobiography by the youngest son of John D. Rockefeller Jr. and Abby Aldrich Rockefeller is also a history of 20th-century America and its influence in the world order. As David Rockefeller traces his own life (he was born in 1915) with references to the personal and business dealings of his father and grandfather, this history unfolds through his eyes. Chapters on his childhood, teenage years, and relationships with his parents provide insight into his character development and lifestyle. But when he discusses his years at Harvard, the London School of Economics, and the University of Chicago, where he earned his Ph.D. in economics, Rockefeller tells of his meetings with top professors and economists such as Keynes and Schumpeter, commenting on their theories. The account of his travel experience in Nazi Germany during the mid-1930s is compelling. His marriage to Peggy, his time as an intelligence officer in World War II, and his relationships with his brothers in family conflicts, as well as his work with Chase Bank, Rockefeller Center, OPEC, and the Middle East, Latin America, and the World Trade Center, are all discussed in detail. Of particular interest is Rockefeller's epilog discussing 9/11. An inveterate networker among policymakers, intellectuals, and corporate leaders, he seems to have been driven by an almost na�ve faith in noblesse oblige, and there's something refreshingly nineteenth-century about this entertaining memoir as well. Rockefeller's style is restrained and self-deprecating; the account of his attempts to modernize and globalize Chase makes for excellent business history, and his sketch of his complicated relationship with his brothers is especially convincing. What may be most striking, however, is Rockefeller's resolute internationalism and his commitment to institutions like the U.N.—a healthy reminder that there was a time when the Republican Party did not see "multilateralism" as a dirty word.

"The henhouse is safe" assures the Fox

Mr Rockefeller writes about the Bilderbergs (p. 410), at the "disppointment" of the "conspiracy-mongers" is just an "intensely interesting annual discussion group." Really? Then how come I'm never invited? What's all the secrecy about?

To give you an idea of why all the secrecy, here's an excerpt from a 1991 issue of the Hilaire duBerrier Report (also reported elsewhere in the French press):

"[Rockefeller] told his listeners: 'We are grateful to the Washington Post, The New York Times, Time Magazine, and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years....It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subject to the bright lights of publicity during these years....The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers ... is surely preferable to the national autodetermination practiced in the past centuries.'"

In "Tragedy and Hope" written By Bill Clinton's professor at Georgetown, Carroll Quigley (p. 950) writes:

"There does exist, and has existed for a generation, an international Anglophile network which operates, to some extent, in the way the radical Right believes the Communists act. In fact, this network, which we may identify as the Round Table Group has no aversion to cooperating with the Communists, of any other groups, and frequently does so. I know of the operations of this network because I have studied it for twenty years and was permitted for two years, in the early 1960's, to examine its papers and secret records. I have no aversion to it...but in general my chief difference of opinion is that it wishes to remain unknown, and I believe its role in history is significant enough to be known."

Now why would the "Round Table Group" want to cooperate with the communists? James Kunen, in his "Strawberry Statement: Notes of a College Revolutionary," gives one reason:

"In the evening, I went up to the U. to check out a strategy meeting. A kid was giving a report on the SDS [Students for a Democratic Society] convention. He said that ... at the convention, men from Business International Round Tables, the meeting sponsored by Business International for their client groups and heads of government, tried to buy up a few radicals. These men are the world's leading industrialists and they convene to decide how our lives are going to go. These are the guys who wrote the Alliance for Progress. They are the left wing of the ruling class. They offered to finance our demonstrations in Chicago. We were also offered ESSO (Rockefeller) money. They want us to make a lot of radical commotion so they can look more in the center as they move to the left."

Is this not the reason why most people think George Bush is conservative? Because the liberal hates Bush?

Mr. Rockefeller on p. 405 claims that the "conspiracy theorists" fail to see the "benefit of our international role over the past half century." And what benefits are these? Quigley gives the answer in his book:

"The powers of financial capitalism had a far-reaching plan, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole."

Now how'd those silly kook populists miss to see the benefit in having a worldwide system of financial control vested in a few plutocrats?

Better editing needed

I bought this book to experience the life of David Rockefeller and what it is like to live a life of incredible wealth. In that respect, I did enjoy this book. For example, the Rockefeller kids did not attend an exclusive private grade school. Obviously, his life was still very different from most Americans filled with travel and meeting very famous, intelligent people.
After a very interesting educational career and time served in WWII, Rockefeller works initially as an assistant to the Mayor of NY but eventually begins a long career with Chase Manhattan Bank ending as the Chairman. Here, the book really bogged down. Even though he was raised in a life much different than most Americans, his Chase career was marked by a rivalry with a senior loan officer in a battle for the top spot at the bank. Rockefeller spent this part of the book describing the battle in depth without trying to be critical. Frankly, it was more information than was needed and not really becoming. After his ascension to the top spot, the book describes in detail, probably too much detail, his growth of the bank, his relationships with world leaders, and the problems at the bank that almost cost him his job. And possibly it should have.
The book ends with Rockefeller reflecting on his philanthropic activities and the ultimate dispostion of the Rockefeller Center. I found this section quite interesting.
Overall, I casually enjoyed this book and would recommend it. But it is real time commitment to read and may be considered too boring for many readers. If you are buying this book because you enjoy business biographies, I would not recommend the book as there is no compelling story to tell from a business perspective. It's just a story of a wonderful life from a very wealthy individual who is able to travel in very high circles.
